We are currently seeking a qualified Bilingual Supervisor, Space Systems Engineering (English & French) to work on leading-edge technology products. Description
The supervisor position is part of an initiative to develop future Client leaders internally. The assignment will be for two years, providing an opportunity to explore the management path and build management skills. Employees will then have the option of continuing the management path or returning to a technical role.
The Supervisor is a member of the management team and reports to the Space Systems Department Manager. The Supervisor contributes to the management of a section of the department by developing and maintaining a workforce with the key technical skills necessary to ensure the successful definition, execution and delivery of the company’s products and projects. The Supervisor will participate in the management of recruitment, development, engagement, and retention, as well as succession planning within his/her team.
In addition, the incumbent will support the manager in other aspects of the department’s overall activities, such as the development of the technology roadmap, continuous improvement, modernization of engineering practices and customer satisfaction. He/she will support the adoption of next-generation engineering tools, techniques, and procedures to enhance the organization’s competitiveness.

Responsibilities
Support and resource management:
  • Recruit employees. Assign, supervise and evaluate their work. Monitor and manage overall employee performance, conduct annual performance reviews, and set individual goals.
  • Provide staffing expertise to support program, R&D and business development demands. Ensure that staffing meets the demand of current and future client programs.
  • Train staff to ensure necessary competencies. Establish and regularly update succession plans for key competencies to avoid ad hoc failures and bottlenecks in resource allocation.
  • Ensure that the group’s skills remain at the forefront of techniques in the respective engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure that staff work in an environment that fosters innovation and evolution to maximize their satisfaction within the constraints of the business, supporting career planning, providing regular feedback and celebrating successes.
  • Oversee engineering processes and tools required to support department activities and program needs.
  • Identify and manage conflicts between all programs for flight or development activities, as required by the department.
  • Support the management of the department’s overhead cost budget within allocation and provide forecasts to Finance as required.
  • Support the coordination of capital planning for the department. Suggest necessary capital investment items with appropriate financial justification and implement procurement.
  • Ensure proper application of company collective agreements.

Technical Overview:
  • Participate in or lead Technical Overview Board (TOB) meetings.
  • Coordinate and ensure dissemination of lessons learned.
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented as required.
  • Provide active support to Communities of Practice (COPs) activities.
  • Participate in or lead technical diagnostics and problem solving.
  • Provide specialized support to Material Review Boards (MRBs) and customer requests as required.

Develop, update and implement processes:
  • Ensure that general company policies and processes are properly applied and adhered to by department personnel.
  • Support the development and updating of department-specific policies, processes, work instructions and standards, and ensure that they are accessible to and adhered to by staff.
  • Suggest and lead new initiatives, participate in business process improvement (BPI) or key performance indicator (KPI) initiatives to improve departmental or overall efficiency.
  • Ensure that all health and safety procedures and policies are adhered to and maintained.

Front end of the business:
  • Provide support and participate in proposal activities
  • Make recommendations to the product development organization regarding new products and R&D initiatives, in line with the company’s strategic direction.
  • Support and coordinate patent applications in collaboration with the product development organization. Ensure that the company’s trade secrets, and proprietary information are protected and handled securely.

Perform other tasks as required, for example: lead proposals at the initial phase, manage small projects or parts thereof, provide support in the management of subcontracts, participate in the negotiation of collective agreements.

Basic Qualifications
  • Engineering degree in aerospace, electrical or similar field, bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in engineering, preferably in the space industry or a related field.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated superior interpersonal, conflict resolution and leadership skills.
  • Professional aspirations to manage teams of people in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience or interest in developing skills in resource management, negotiations, risk management techniques and financial reporting.
  • Good communicator in French and English (written and spoken).
