Principal Electrical Engineer

We are currently seeking a qualified Principal Electrical Engineer. The role involves leading the design, development, and testing of aerospace actuation and motor control systems, specializing in BLDC/PMSM motors and motor control theory. Requires expertise in analog and digital circuit design, MIL/RTCA standards, and the ability to manage projects, customer discussions, and mentoring within a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and testing of aerospace actuation and motor controller systems, including both new designs and sustaining projects.
  • Utilize expertise in analog and digital electronics to design and integrate circuits for BLDC/PMSM motor controllers, including components like op-amps, comparators, FETs, and logic ICs.
  • Apply motor control theory and power/energy conservation knowledge to ensure optimal performance and efficiency of motor controllers.
  • Model, simulate, and verify analog and digital circuits using simulation tools such as P-spice, MATLAB/Simulink, and Power Sim (PSIM).
  • Create detailed circuit schematics and ensure proper implementation in PWB and PWA designs using Altium.
  • Generate high-quality specifications, reports, and proposals, with a preference for experience in DOORS for requirements management.
  • Ensure compliance with MIL-STD and RTCA standards, including DO-160, DO-178, and DO-254 for aerospace applications.
  • Participate in customer discussions, technical briefings, trade study discussions, and help shape technical requirements.
  • Review vendor capabilities and support product development with appropriate solutions.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, providing guidance in technical and project management aspects.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across program management, product support, manufacturing, and quality to address requests and resolve challenges.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; a Master's or PhD is a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience in electrical/electronics engineering, with a strong focus on aerospace systems.
  • Expertise in designing and developing aerospace actuators and motor controllers, including BLDC/PMSM motor control.
  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, embedded systems, and motor control theory.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461/464, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-810, and RTCA standards (DO-160, DO-178, DO-254).
  • Experience with simulation tools such as P-spice, MATLAB/Simulink, and Power Sim (PSIM).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external management.
  • Demonstrated project management and customer interface capabilities, with the ability to manage schedules, costs, and technical requirements.
  • Ability to mentor and lead teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
