Job Title: Instrumentation & Controls Engineer (VFD and Motor Control Design)

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Engineer specializing in VFD and Motor Control Design. Our team focuses on the control systems and instrumentation for Fuel Handling Systems, plant operations, tooling, medical isotope systems, and remote delivery machines. The successful candidate will have expert knowledge in engineering design, troubleshooting, maintenance, and support of complex and specialized control systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and setup of VFD/Motor equipment and systems.
  • Test execution/commissioning of VFD/Motors equipment and systems.
  • Conduct tests and measurements to evaluate motor performance, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot complex VFD control issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
  • Configure and integrate VFD systems with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and actuators.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Design team and MCC’s.
  • Liaise with various customer groups to gather site-specific design information.

General Accountabilities:

  • Perform walkdowns of equipment in the plant.
  • Prepare and present technical data to stakeholders.
  • Ensure designs comply with company, technical, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and stakeholder meetings.
  • Support the development and estimating of engineering proposals.
  • Lead by example in compliance and adherence to processes and standards.
  • Support customer relationships and market alignment.
  • Participate in proposal development and technical presentations.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • B.A.Sc. in Electrical/Instrumentation & Control/Automation Engineering or related discipline.
  • Holds or working towards a PEO license.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in design engineering, preferably in Nuclear or Motor Circuit design.
  • Solid understanding of Motor Control, VFD operations, and harmonics.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols and automation technologies.
  • Knowledge of low voltage power distribution and control circuits.
  • Proficient in navigating the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and ensuring compliance.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
  • Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • Creative and innovative thinking.

  • Flexibility for short-term remote or onsite customer assignments.
  • Willingness to travel for client and stakeholder meetings.
