Material & Process Technical Professional

Job Overview: As a Material and Process (“M&P”) Technical Professional, the selected candidate will play a crucial role in the design and manufacturing of space hardware. This position involves the careful selection and development of mechanical parts, materials, and processes to meet the stringent physical and chemical requirements imposed by the space environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for addressing various challenges, such as charging (ESD), EMI, outgassing/contamination, atomic oxygen attack, corrosion, stress-corrosion effects, radiation effects, UV degradation, etc., in a cost-effective manner to support medium-size to large production.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Material and Process Selection: Utilize vendor documentations, scientific literature, analyses, and tests to guide the selection and development of materials and processes that meet space environment requirements.

  2. Design Support: Provide engineering solutions by actively participating in concurrent engineering efforts, ensuring the integration of materials and processes into the hardware design.

  3. Issue Resolution: Address challenges related to charging, EMI, outgassing, corrosion, and other environmental factors, ensuring cost-effective and reliable solutions.

  4. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Communicate effectively with multiple departments, including Engineering, Procurement, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing, providing technical support and expertise.

  5. Qualification Testing: Oversee and participate in the qualification testing of selected materials and processes to ensure compliance with space hardware requirements.


  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, metallurgical, chemical, or material engineering or equivalent.
  • 8 to 12 years of relevant experience in the space, defense, or automotive industry.
  • Experience in metallurgy, plating, adhesives, paints and coatings, composite materials, and other advanced materials.
  • Knowledge of database management/programming, preferably Microsoft Access.
  • Some experience with CAD software, preferably NX.
  • Bilingualism is a definite asset.
