Embedded Developer - General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada

Location: London, ON

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Designing and developing efficient embedded applications using C/C++
  • Working closely with multiple engineering disciplines to test, debug, and deploy vehicle subsystems
  • Development on a variety of platforms including Embedded and Linux
  • Participation in code reviews and documentation peer reviews

Day to day activities:
  • Code development
  • Code reviews
  • Git repo creation and management
  • Team meetings
  • Unit testing on hardware
  • Requirement reviews
  • On vehicle testing / troubleshooting
  • Recommend best practices
  • Coordinate with suppliers
  • Sprint reviews
  • Mentor junior team members

Required Qualifications:
  • University Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 3-5 years of embedded software development using C/C++.
  • Knowledge of vehicle communication network protocols (CAN Bus, SAE J1939)
  • Experience with serial protocols for communication and logging
  • Testing and debugging skills
  • Ability to participate in concept and feature development
  • Familiarity with Git
  • Strong communication, organization and prioritization skills
  • Must be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Requirements for confined space
  • Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
  • Must be able to work in Canada and to obtain CGP (Controlled Goods Program) clearance and be eligible for access to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) controlled data/hardware
  • The incumbent must have or be able to obtain and maintain Secret Level clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
• 5 or more years of embedded software development on a variety of platforms
• Experience developing for FreeRTOS
• Experience with developing secure embedded applications
• Adept with embedded real time operating systems
• Experience with Data Distribution Service (DDS)
• Utilization of mainstream development tools such as Eclipse-based IDEs
• Familiarity with wiring and troubleshooting/debugging Digital Circuits
• Knowledge of Network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP)
• Experience with Agile/SCRUM software practices
