Junior UAV Flight Control Engineer

  • The primary responsibility of this role is to design, tune, and maintain the flight control algorithms used in our suite of products;
  • These algorithms must be implemented according to standards-compliant methodology to support certification for flight;
  • The development will be conducted using Matlab/Simulink and C/C++;
  • Secondary responsibilities will include support for control system and observer design and tuning on other non-flight systems;
  • General support and participation in the implementation and testing of our products including service delivery, training, and customer support.

  • Masters or PhD in Engineering with a strong background in mathematics as it relates to control theory; 
  • Strong foundation in dynamical systems concepts such as stability and convergence using linear and nonlinear methods is required, along with familiarity with concepts such as linearization, system identification, frequency response, pole placement, and disturbance attenuation;
  • Experience with implementing controls on a physical system is beneficial, including use of standard tools such as Matlab/Simulink;
  • Desirable experience includes control of a system involving rigid body motion, familiarity with the Newton-Euler equations, attitude representation, and the topological properties of attitude convergence;
  • Both observer and controller design experience as part of a research program are an asset;
  • Simulation experience is acceptable while physical system experience is preferred;
  • Publications in one or more peer-reviewed journals or high-quality conference proceedings and general familiarity with the literature in the field, including the ability to research topics in controls is also desirable;
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
