Sr. Java Developer

Responsibilities                        

  • The Programmer Developer will be required to participate in the system development life cycle (design, development, testing, implementation, and post production support);
  • Required to translate technical systems specifications into working, tested applications. This includes developing detailed programming specifications, writing and/or generating code, compiling data-driven programs, maintaining, and conducting unit tests;
  • Understand how the existing application is designed;
  • Analyze which code needs to be enhanced based on the requirements;
  • Build their development environment, develop code according to Government of Ontario I&IT standards
  • Participate in code review, fix defective code, identify problems and participate in problem solving activities;
  • Provide operational and production support and provide post-implementation support;
  • Document all system changes and other duties as assigned by the Project Lead;
  • Participate in team meetings;
  • Resource must have flexible availability as some work may need to be conducted after regular working hours and weekends.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent;
  • Expert proficiency in Java analysis and programming with at least 10 years’ of experience;
  • Must haves:
    • Java – 10+ years
    • Oracle 12C or higher – 10+ years
    • WebSphere v8.5 or higher – 5+ years
    • Spring framework MVC experience – 5+ years
    • Web Services and RESTful Web Services – 5+years
    • Angular – 3+ years
    • JMS – 5+ years
    • IBM Rational Software Architecture – 3+
    • GIT (Bitbucket) - 3+
    • Struts framework – 3+
    • Experience with AODA/WCAG 2.0 AA
    • Experience with Mobile Web Application development
  • Ability to collaborate with IT Professionals throughout the Software Development Life Cycle;
  • Experience in structured methodologies for the development, design, implementation and maintenance of applications;
  • Experience in design, code, test, debug; and document applications;
  • Experience in the use of object and/or third generation language development tools;
  • Experience in one or more programming languages;
  • Experience in application design, latest design patterns, deployment, and troubleshooting;
  • Experience with relational and hierarchical database technologies;
  • Experience in the use of information retrieval packages using query languages;
  • Experience with one or more communications protocols;
  • Experience in structured methodologies for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of applications;
  • Experience eliciting and documenting information from diverse business area stakeholders and subject matter experts;
  • Knowledge and experience with programming Internet-ready applications;
  • Knowledge and experience in rapid application development (RAD) methodologies;
  • Experience with middleware and gateways;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and related regulations and standards;
  • Ability to provide user and system documentation as required;
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and interpersonal and negotiation skills;
  • A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
