Software Developer

  • Support overall design solution to product definition including system architecture, failure mode analysis and system redundancy for R&T projects;
  • Contribute to the overall architecture design of the next generation secure mobile communication gateway;
  • Port, develop, analyze, and implement algorithms for multi WAN redundancy, WAN failover and WAN bonding for mass transit applications:
  • Perform prototyping in simulation environments and with “proof of concept” platforms;
  • Perform hands on experimentation to gain new knowledge;
  • Perform all phases as related to algorithm development: model, compile, build, debug, simulation, testing, validation and documentation;
  • Design, code, integrate and test software applications required to support various R&T projects;
  • Design and build test setups, test environment to validate mobility, handover and WAN failover performance;
  • Use and setup tools and systems for data collection and evaluation of large datasets. Experience with ‘big data’ algorithms is an asset;
  • Prepares reports, giving findings on problems;
  • Provides support to the product team and other departments as required to help with new solutions;
  • Analyzes and write requirements using Company standard methodology;  
  • Works with system modelling tools and methodologies such as Arcadia;
  • Keeps abreast of relevant technology developments in networking and especially SD-WAN space;
  • Comfortable in a highly dynamic, Agile work environment;
  • Perform design reviews per R&T lifecycle;
  • Assists in providing leadership and motivation to staff.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have a Masters or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent;
  • 2-3 years relevant work experience or equivalent on Linux based routing/gateway/firewall platforms;
  • Expertise in one or more of the following: networking, routing, firewall and security principles algorithms;
  • Excellent understanding of Linux and Linux driver architecture of WiFi and LTE radio module;
  • Excellent understanding of WiFi protocols and extensions 802.11ac/ax/i/k/r;
  • Experience with testing and integration of wireless functional modules;
  • Experience with SNMP, CLI and Web interface implementation for remote management and configuration;
  • Experience in C/C++, RTOS,  FreeBSD an asset;
  • Proficiency with a Linux scripting and at least one scripting/productivity language such as Ruby or Python;
  • Experience with microcontrollers and ARM processors is an asset;
  • Knowledge of C#, Javascript, TypeScript, SQL an asset;
  • Knowledge of National Instruments/Labview an asset;
  • Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Experience with real-time, safety critical systems an asset;
  • Knowledge of railway signaling techniques would be an asset;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
