Aversan Inc. (www.aversan.com) is a reputable Engineering Company that provides expertise in the Aerospace and Defense industry. We are currently seeking a qualified Avionics Lead for the development, integration and certification of technologically advanced and innovative avionics and electrical solutions in response to the need for upgrades, expansion or replacement of existing platform capabilities, systems or new developments while meeting the certification standards for the various commercial and Canadian government upgrade programs.

The candidate will be part of the Commercial Programs team, based in Mirabel, reporting to the core engineering group. Opportunity to progress as a technical lead role / management.

This posting is looking for the following competencies:
  • Adept with creation and/or interpretation of engineering requirements/specifications.
  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of technical tasks. Solutions are thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization and discipline expectations.
  • Development of avionics system requirements and management, systems specifications, architecture and interfaces with other aircraft systems.
  • Coordination with avionics system suppliers in the development, integration and testing of displays, flight instruments, communication and navigation systems, sensor and sighting systems, vehicle health systems and vehicle management systems.
  • System and software integration, system safety assessment, validation and verification testing in systems integration labs, aircraft flight test, and aircraft/system qualification and certification.
  • Provide direction for the development of test requirements to drive systems integration lab and flight test aircraft instrumentation design.
  • Provide direction to perform hardware and software integration testing of multiple systems operating together in a systems integration lab.
  • Provide direction to support system integration including component selection, interface compatibility and drafting of electrical schematics as well as identifying system installation requirements.
  • Review and approve system performance test plans and procedures, analyze results, and write qualification reports for functional and certification testing at the component and system level.
  • Review and approve analyses in support of the certification of installed or modified systems (electrical loads, thermal, support for safety analyses, EMC, HIRF and lightning at the systems and at the aircraft level).
  • Support LRU/system testing, Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL) testing and troubleshooting.
  • Support aircraft ground and flight testing.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/avionics engineering.
Position Requirements:
  • 5-10 years of pertinent experience in aerospace or equivalent working level experience. Lead experience is an asset.
  • Good analytical and leadership skills.
  • Works independently and develops solutions on intermediate complexity tasks. 
  • Responsible for completion of specific lead tasks that are critical to success of a program.  
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written) and French (an asset).
  • Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.
  • Mentors junior level engineers.
  • Represents the discipline in providing/presenting solutions to technical issues.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation.
  • Working level knowledge or mastery with some or all the following AE areas, is required:

AE systems:
  • PFD, MFD, EICAS, Cockpit controls, Digital Map
  • AHRS, GPS, IFF, ADS-B, TCAS, ILS, Radar Altimeter, Air Data
  • Automatic flight control management system
  • Communications Systems: VHF/UHF, HF, SATCOM, Datalink, ICS
  • CVR and FDR
  • Aircraft Survivability Equipment (CMDS, MAWS, RLWR)
  • Electrical power generation, distribution, and protection (DC/AC, 28 V and HV systems)
  • Electrical power storage devices
  • Lighting, internal and external (commercial and NVIS)

Equipment qualification standards:
  • RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-883, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, RTCA/DO-178, RTCA/DO-254, RTCA/DO-311 and RTCA/DO-227.

Civil aircraft and systems certification standards:
  • FAR/AWM 27/527 and/or FAR/AWM 29/529

Systems safety and Reliability assessments:
  • SAE ARP 4754A, ARP 4761, MIL-HDBK-217, CAFTA
