System Analyst

  • Support overall design solution to product definition including system architecture, failure mode analysis and system redundancy for R&T projects;
  • Contribute to the overall architecture design of the next generation urban mobility autonomy solution;
  • Perform technical/engineering tasks to define system design, subsystem requirements, and system application scenarios. Analysis and simulations are performed as necessary to identify design feasibility and driving requirements;
  • Perform modelling using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink;
  • Perform all phases as related to algorithm development: model, compile, build, debug, simulation, testing, validation and documentation;
  • Design and build prototype hardware including mechanical structures and electrical interfaces;
  • Use and setup tools and systems for data collection and evaluation of large data sets;
  • Analyze control system dynamics, parameters and models to generate reports;
  • Prepares reports, giving findings on problems;
  • Provides support to product team and other departments as required to help with production of new solutions;
  • Analyzes and write requirements using company standard methodology;
  • Works with system modelling tools and methodologies such as Arcadia;
  • Comfortable in a highly dynamic, Agile-based work environment;
  • Perform design reviews per R&T life cycle;
  • Participate in the analysis and modelling of very complex, real-time, autonomous system use cases;
  • Support the implementation of a set of progressively more complex ‘proof of concept’ platforms;
  • Participate in ‘hands on’ system development, integration, field testing and analysis of results;
  • Document and defend results, designs and trade-offs;
  • Work with multiple sensors and help develop the latest software algorithms to control complex, safety critical systems;
  • Develop expertise in the mass transit and railway signaling domains and contribute to the product offering;
  • Assist in providing leadership and motivation to staff. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or a related field;
  • 2-4 years relevant work experience or equivalent;
  • Strong application domain knowledge of automated train control systems and railway signaling techniques;
  • Strong knowledge of system engineering principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of system development life cycle;
  • Experience with real-time, safety critical systems an asset;
  • Hands on experience with IMU, radars, cameras, LIDAR and other sensors is an asset;
  • Knowledge in Kalman Filters, optimization, and control theories is an asset;
  • Hands on experience with mechatronics system design including mechanical and electrical subsystem design, construction, and integration;
  • Hands on experience with designing and building prototype mechanical structures such as fixtures, bracketry, frameworks for rail environment use;
  • Hands on experience with making, repairing, and modifying electrical components, wirings, cables;
  • Experience with hardware/software integration, development of robotic testing platforms, and application of micro-controllers;
  • Experience in Python, C++, C#, ROS, Linux, DOORS is an asset;
  • Experience with prototyping in simulation environments including MATLAB/Simulink, National Instruments/LabVIEW;
  • Knowledge of CAD modelling tools including Solidworks, Solid Edge;
  • Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Willingness to travel outside of Canada;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
