Jr. Systems Design Specialist

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada
Aversan Inc. is a multi-service engineering firm specializing in design, build, testing, certification, and support services for embedded flight and rail systems & software, health technology, and advanced IT.



  • Converts Customer requirements into conceptual designs and prepares associated documentation by performing operational analyses, simulations and technical trade-offs studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features;
  • Similarly creates new concepts or modifies existing concepts to full customer requirements;
  • Prepares system & subsystem requirement specifications, interface requirements and test requirement documents by analyzing, decomposing modelling and refining customer requirements and typical train control domain requirements;
  • Performs technical/engineering tasks to define system design and subsystem requirements details;
  • Analysis and simulations are performed as necessary to identify design feasibility & driving requirements;
  • Prepares and supports preparation of design & development proposals based on a knowledge of ATC technology, customer requirements and backed by analysis, simulation and trade-offs of key design driving requirements;
  • Prepares specialized ATC systems analyses based on polytechnic engineering skills and knowledge of the ATCS domain;
  • Accurately reports work progress and estimates to complete against work packages assigned by his/her lead/manager;
  • Develop, implement and maintain tools relevant to the Systems Engineering function. Assists in the assessment of relevant tools;
  • To ensure system requirements are accurately and completely defined;
  • To ensure that system design meets customer requirements, and to enforce lower levels designs compliance to the respective requirements;
  • To maintain high personal productivity while working interactively with many other suppliers and user groups. To document system design decisions in a methodical and professional manner within budget and on time;
  • To meet deadlines on the development programs involving new design challenges;

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent;
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in systems design;
  • Programming experience in C++ and Python is a must;
  • Knowledge of specification-driven systems design (as it applies to computer systems with both hardware and software operation) and familiarity with modern software development methodology tools and software specification;
  • Basic mechanical & dynamic motion analysis, reliability engineering, radio communications systems engineering, automatic controls and command engineering;
  • Good planning and organization skills;
  • Excellent technical English language writing skills; good communication and analytical skills.
