Hardware Designer (Embedded)

We are seeking a qualified Hardware Designer.

As a member of our team you will contribute to the design, development, and testing of advanced embedded hardware solutions. This position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of embedded technology within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.

Responsibilities
  • Engineer, design, develop, and test new embedded hardware products utilizing leading-edge technologies.
  • Support, maintain, and enhance existing embedded hardware designs.
  • Apply established development processes and contribute to ongoing process improvements.
  • Analyze technical requirements, research potential solutions, and develop robust design implementations.
  • Generate accurate and comprehensive user documentation and design specifications.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews, providing constructive technical input.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and products for potential integration into future designs.
  • Stay current with industry trends in embedded hardware and share knowledge across the team.
  • Contribute to the release of manufacturing technical data packages for production.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and productive team environment.
 

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in board-level hardware development and hands-on laboratory work (co-op experience may be considered).
  • Experience designing electronic systems to meet extended operating temperature requirements, ideally -40C to +70C. Experience with MIL-STD-810/DO-160 ideal but any experience with thermal design is acceptable.
  • Strong understanding of electronics and engineering principles with practical, real-world application.
  • Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated responsibility, commitment to quality, and ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Results-oriented team player who leads by example, takes ownership of responsibilities, and supports process improvement initiatives.
Experience with the following is an asset:
  • Experience designing electronic systems with conduction- and air-flow-through cooling solutions, cold-plate interfaces, heat frames, wedge-locks, and thermal interface materials
  • Experience with electronic hardware design for complex board-level products (e.g., VPX/VME cards, ComE boards,  rugged computers, avionics controllers, video products).
  • Experience with PCB layout designers to achieve EMC-compliant, thermally efficient designs (layer stack-ups, copper planes, thermal reliefs, via farms, etc).
  • Experience with FPGAs and embedded prototyping platforms such as Raspberry Pi or Arduino.
  • Experience collaborating within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Familiarity with Schematic capture and PCB layout tools preferably Mentor/Xpedition.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards (e.g., IPC-2221, IPC-6012), MIL-STD-810 (or equivalent) environmental requirements (temperature, altitude, vibration, shock, humidity, sand/dust, etc.).
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI-aware design and grounding/layout practices.
  • Familiarity with product development processes.
  • Familiarity using hardware test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related tools.
  • Familiarity with high-speed digital circuit design and signal integrity principles.
  • Familiarity with requirements capture, analysis, and tracking.
  • Demonstrated passion for emerging technologies and computing trends.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn new concepts and tools.
