Senior Mechanical Designer

Aversan Inc. (www.aversan.com) is a reputable Engineering Company that provides expertise in Systems Integration, Product Design/Development and Software/Product Testing for highly regulated industries including Digital Health, Medical Devices, IT and Aerospace.  We are currently seeking a qualified Senior Mechanical Designer to work on leading-edge technology products. The successful candidate for this position will be a part of a highly motivated and highly technical work environment that feeds off the collective energy of a team-oriented workplace.

Location: Mississauga, Hybrid

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and manufacture automated test systems using SolidWorks.
  • Create detailed mechanical designs and drawings for parts, assemblies, and various components related to industrial or nuclear automation equipment using ANSI/ISO design practices.
  • Select appropriate equipment for automated test systems, including motors, gears, shafts, machine vision, pneumatics, hydraulics, LVDTs, laser sensors, proximity sensors, servos, etc.
  • Choose suitable manufacturing design concepts, materials, and processes for equipment.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Plan system layout design and conceptualization.
  • Apply engineering principles to various system design and development projects.
  • Employ problem-solving skills during early concept, prototype, and production development phases.
  • Analyze engineering drawings, identify necessary tools, fixtures, and equipment, and perform engineering calculations.  
  • Utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation for static and dynamic analysis.
  • Provide support during manufacturing, assembly, debugging, and integration phases.
  • Prepare and present design reviews to stakeholders.
  • Oversee the work of other designers and provide mentorship.
  • Manage projects and tasks, including documentation, quotes, cost estimates, resource requirements, and effective communication with the Lead Designer/Project Manager.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical design experience, with at least 3 years in industrial automation equipment design (CANDU reactor and/or nuclear experience is a plus).
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks 2018 (or higher) and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with machined part and sheet metal design.
  • Familiarity with engineering change orders (ECOs) and creating engineering documents.
  • Proven problem-solving techniques and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
