Embedded Engineer

Aversan Inc. is a multi-service engineering firm specializing in design, build, testing, certification, and support services for embedded flight and rail systems & software, health technology, and advanced IT.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop new or revise existing embedded middleware and IoT products, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles, and by applying technological advancements and coding practices in embedded systems development to meet product development and project requirements;
  • Demonstrates a superior level of logical reasoning resulting in effective designs for products and processes, understanding not only the product itself but also the main functions at system level;
  • Interprets, identifies, and documents the SW and HW requirements such that customer needs are met within the budget and schedule constraints;
  • Ensures both the safety and quality of middleware products while reducing the deployment cost of those products. Contributes to the heightened reuse of product hardware and contributes to improvements in hardware quality;
  • Locates and researches source information for design activities, extracting the pertinent data, and using it to provide recommendations;
  • Understand HW architectures and is responsible for architecting code structures and embedded designs of varying difficulty and complexity depending on experience, and involving new technology and innovative approaches;
  • Understand and follow the company processes and procedures for developing applications;
  • Implements real-time systems in C++ and external WebApp Framework in Python;
  • Architects the code structure, designs, codes, and debugs;
  • Writes test procedures and test software code and reviews test procedures and test results;
  • Analyze and implement corrections for defect reports;
  • Support in-house testing teams to analyze and identify issues;
  • Articulates technical design issues and their resolutions in a clear and concise way so that it can be reviewed and approved by the HW Engineering Manager;
  • Participate in mentoring of junior members of the HW department;
  • Makes timely decisions, both independently and in concert with others, after a thorough evaluation of all relevant factors.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer, Electrical, Software Engineering or equivalent;
  • Minimum 5 years experience in embedded systems architecture and design and development;
  • Proficient in using Python and C++;
  • Experience with Visual Studio;
  • Knowledge of software development environment preferably ARM-based embedded development;
  • Knowledge of software and hardware architecture for IoT systems;
  • Experience using Ruby, Perl, and VB scripting, and Linux environment an asset;
  • Knowledge of software engineering practices, process, design methodologies, and tools;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
