Job Title: Digital Payload Principal System Engineer

Location: Montreal

Company Overview: A leader in aerospace technology, specializing in the design and manufacturing of advanced communication satellite systems for global deployment.

Role Summary:
The Digital Payload Principal System Engineer is responsible for leading the design, architecture, and optimization of end-to-end digital payload systems and subsystems for a high-capacity satellite constellation. This includes LEO and MEO communication satellites equipped with very high data rate systems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the architectural design and development of communication satellite payloads and the overall telecommunication strategy for satellite constellations.
- Engage in detailed requirement analysis, perform trade studies, and execute capacity evaluations for optimizing satellite payload performance.
- Interface with customers and cross-functional program teams to ensure alignment of technical objectives and program goals.
- Define system requirements and ensure their translation into detailed designs for subsystems including onboard digital processors, direct radiating phased array antennas, optical intra-satellite links, and feeder subsystems.
- Oversee and generate comprehensive test plans and supervise testing procedures.
- Participate and lead design reviews throughout the Space Programs Life Cycle.
- Contribute to the development and integration of digital communication equipment, signal processing technologies, and networking solutions within the payload.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in satellite payload design and implementation.
- Proven experience in leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Extensive knowledge of satellite LEO/MEO constellation architecture and system design.
- Familiarity with digital communication equipment, signal processing and modulation schemes, and antenna performance parameters.
- Experience with Software Defined Radio (SDR), routing protocols, and networking.
- Understanding of 5G NTN technologies is highly favorable.
- Proficiency in simulation tools and software development using Agile methodologies.
- Strong understanding of the space environment, orbit mechanics, and aerospace engineering fundamentals.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of French is an asset.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.

Additional Information:
- Positions are based in Montreal. Candidates must have relevant system design experience in space programs.
